Lost American — AKA Chris E. Kelley — chose his moniker with thought. In the wake of 9/11, Kelley moved to Russia and South Africa, pondering what it means to be an American and looking back on where he came from.

Having now returned to Nashville, Lost American is bringing his music home. More than that, the Rauch von König remix of “Robot Spark” takes us into the future.

The song itself is techno-fuelled with effected vocals that bring a sense of distance. Sometimes blending into something cyborg-esque, Kelley releases words that have minimal correlation, except to bring atmosphere to the forefront. “I am ready for my x-ray picture,” he sings. “Do you like my telegraphic pants?”

In the accompanying clip, the band behind Kelley keeps a fairly stoic presence as Kelley dances and jitters, almost anxiously, and performs like a true frontman. There is a touch of David Byrne’s entrancing showmanship here, put on display for juxtaposition to the steady-and-strong musicians behind him.
