Flyght Club are creating psychedelic rock for the current moment. Shauvik Sharan is the man behind the project and has crossed the world to pursue his art. Moving from Pune, India, to Los Angeles, California he is giving us all a change of pace with his pace-changing song.
“Those American Eyes” is nearly seven minutes long, and plays out like an experience more than a single. With ups and downs, swells and restraint, this is a song that keeps the listener on their toes. Resonant acoustic noodling makes for complex backing sound as chaos lurks just under the surface. When the sitar takes on a solo, everything slows down before jumping back into a classic rock sound.
The accompanying video is simple. The players, dressed colourfully and always grooving, show you exactly how this epic of a song comes to be. It’s a smooth choice for a song that could, for its scope, be difficult to imagine live. Instead, Flyght Club bring you into their world and give a taste of the live show. It’s a sweet preview at the shows that will, eventually, be part of our lives again.
