Michael Bright gifts views of Toronto and memories of city lights in his new track and clip for “Heartache”. The song brings the nostalgia of a past love back to the surface in a blaze of neon and grey moody days. At nineteen years old, this artist has managed to encapsulate a time and space through sound, and with direction from Sava Terehoff, finds the sliced images and bright lights to compliment it.
“Do you remember / after dawn / the city bright lights / on the walls?” Bright asks. His moves are smooth but his expression betrays the heart of the song: a time past, a feeling lost. Repeated refrains and silky synths create ambience and a slick beat keeps the track lingering, but its the vocals that raise this track up. Imagine the Weeknd with a dash of Michael Jackson thrown in. By the time the track fades out you want to play it again.
