May Devun is proving to be a powerhouse at making R&B and pop crossover music. With hyper-control over her voice and an ability to make each note stand alone and blend in at once, this is an artist to watch.

Watching will be easy. “Say the Words” is the first in a string of upcoming releases from the Los Angeles artist. The song — which finds an edge in the driving piano melody that trickles up and along your spine — is about endorsing who you are. Devun’s vocals soar and fall with the rhythms of the song and it is impossible to not feel swept up in her swooping accentuations. When the piano lines find each other at varying paces, or the strings rise to find their place, the song takes on a new affirmative energy.

It’s no wonder the song is so enchanting: it features composer Patrick Warren, who has worked with many top 40 artists including Adele and Lana Del Rey. Meanwhile, Matt Chamberlain — who has Fiona Apple on his résumé — provides the acoustic drums.

If you’re looking for that new anthem to build you up and fly you away, “Say the Words” is the hit for you. Keep an eye our for more tunes from May Devun on her website, SoundCloud, and Facebook page. You can also follow her on Twitter.
