Dust off that boombox and prepare to bump some new De La Soul.  Back in March, the veteran hip hop group launched their Kickstarter campaign to fund their eighth album with a set goal of $110,000. Apparently pledgers didn’t think that number would cut it, because the fund capped off yesterday with a astonishing $600,874  pledged. The new album will feature some top collaborations with the likes of  Damon Albarn (of Blur/Gorillaz), 2 Chainz, Little Dragon, and David Byrne (of Talking Heads). The group had the following statement to express their gratitude.

“Thank you so much to all of you for rewarding us with your time and help!! We have not only become the second most funded music project on Kickstarter, but we have also gained a clearer insight into how you feel about us as a group and what we do. You have helped directly play a part in giving us the much needed creative fuel by showing that we still matter to all of you! In knowing that we feel nothing less than number 1!!! Much love and this music is coming your way soon!! ‪#‎thankyou‬ ‪#‎blessed‬ ‪#‎delasoul‬”

It’s a good day for hip hop fans.
